Monument to the Palmer Family

West Wall: Mural Monument

"In grateful and lasting memory of Robert Palmer Esquire of Holme Park and his brothers and sisters to whose munificent benefactors every part of the parish of Sonning bears witness. This monument was erected by their tenants and friends and the inhabitants of Sonning of all classes in the year 1876.

Robert Palmer, born January 31st 1793.
Elected to represent the County of Berkshire in the House of Commons, 1825.
Resigned, 1859. Died November 21st 1872.
Blessed is he that considereth the poor and needy.

Richard Palmer, born December 28th 1795.
Rector of Blaby, Leicestershire, 1825.
Of Purley, Berkshire, 1844. Died October 25th 1874.

Henry Palmer, born December 5th 1799.
Rector of Little Lover, Essex, 1824.
Died October 31st 1870.
Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.

Elizabeth Palmer, born July 1st 1802.
Died May 6th 1861.
Laura Frances Palmer, born March 18th 1806.
Died June 22nd 1870.
Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God.

Susanna Caroline Palmer, born May 20th 1804.
Died January 2nd 1880.
Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord for they rest from their labours and their works do follow them."
